CHRIST CANDLE LIGHTING
Christmas Eve
“Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which translated means, ‘God with us.’” (Matthew 1:22-23)

Advent, the season of expectation and anticipation, is over, Christ has come, God is with us! During Advent we sought to rediscover hope in our uncertainties, peace in our struggles, joy in our discouragement, and love in our differences. We lit Advent candles standing for hope, peace, joy, and love. (The candles are lit.)

Immanuel, God with us. Our creator God who formed the heavens and the earth and all the universe with but a word, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. Jesus lived among us, showed us the way to God the Father, then paved the way Himself through His death on the cross and His resurrection. He is God with us who will never leave or forsake us. This is why we celebrate the birth of Christ.

Jesus, the Christ, left the glories of heaven to come to earth and be born for us, to be God with us, to save us from our sins. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance; that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Let us rediscover the message of Christmas, deserving of our full acceptance.

Rediscovering Christ with us, we now light the Christ Candle. (The candle is lit.)
