July 2 Abide Series Week 3 “The Test of Truth, The Call to Abide” In his first letter, John raises the concern about anti-Christian teaching and activity and how these things should be put to the test. The reassuring instruction and call upon us is to abide in the truth of Christ we have received. Doing so leads to abiding in Jesus and God the Father. Scriptures: 1 John 2:18-29
July 9 Abide Series Week 4 “Practice Righteousness, Pursue Love, Possess Assurance” We can show we are part of God’s family, “little children” as John says. We show we know God by obeying His commands, and by taking His view of sin. We show we know God by loving others. We have God’s assurance that we are His family members as we abide in Him. Scriptures: 1 John 2:29-3:24
July 16 Abide Series Week 5 “Truth and Error; God is Love” To know the truth is to know Jesus and in the Spirit of God to steer away from false spirits. God is love and God has so loved us that we should love one another. The one who abides in love abides in God. Scriptures: 1 John 4:1-21
July 23 Abide Series Week 6 “Overcoming the World” Obeying God’s commands demonstrates love for God and love for others. Keeping God’s commandments helps us in overcoming the world. The testimony of our faith shows that we abide in God. Scriptures: John 16:25-33; 1 John 5:1-12
