“Wrestling with Doubt” Sermon Series

May 5 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with Unanswered Prayer” Many people experience doubt because of unanswered prayers, when it seems that God is silent or even unable to help in their time of need. In contending with unanswered prayer, it is helpful to have more of an understanding of Jesus’ words and promises concerning prayer. Wrestling with unanswered prayer, we can find faith. Scriptures: Matthew 21:18-22; 1 John 5:14-15.

May 12 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with Suffering” For many people, suffering and tragedy are the primary cause of their doubts and even reason not to believe God is loving and just. Examining assumptions and expectations about God and how God is can help with thoughts about suffering. Considering causes of suffering can also be helpful for more understanding. Wrestling with suffering, we can find faith. Scriptures: Job 2:7-10; Romans 5:3-5.

May 19 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with the Holy Spirit” There are many questions about the Holy Spirit and how the Spirit functions in the world and in our life. The Bible has much to say about the Spirit and yet our experience and understanding of the Spirit may be lacking. Wrestling with the Holy Spirit, we can find faith. Scriptures: Acts 2:1-21; John 16:7-15.

May 26 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with the Times of Life” Solomon tells us, “There is an appointed time for everything and there is a time for every event under heaven.” There are struggles with many of the times he states because they don’t seem to fit with our concept of God and His purposes. Wrestling with the times of life, we can find faith. Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 3:1-11; Psalm 31:14-16.
