“Wrestling with Doubt” Sermon Series

April 7 “Wrestling with Doubt” series begins: “Wrestling with the Existence of God” The struggle to believe in God’s existence can have several sources, such as science and the plausibility of a personal transcendent God. There are a multitude of reasons for God’s existence, and for the difference believing makes in our life. Wrestling with the existence of God, we can find faith. Scriptures: Acts 17:22-31; John 20:24-31.

April 14 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with the Bible” There is the statement, “It’s not the parts of the Bible I don’t understand that trouble me; it’s the parts that I do understand that really trouble me.” The Bible has plenty of troubling passages, but the message of the Bible is about God’s redemptive love, God’s power, God’s purposes, and God’s will for our lives. Wrestling with the Bible, we can find faith. Scriptures: Romans 15:4-6; 2 Timothy 3:14-17.

April 21 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with the Eternal Fate of Non-Christians” Many people struggle with the idea that a good, kind, loving, gracious, just God would send any “good” people to hell. The question is raised as to what the basis is for people’s eternal fate. There is the position that we are to trust that God judges in the light of His mercy and love, and that God can apply the saving work of Jesus to anyone God chooses. Wrestling with the eternal fate of people, we can find faith. Scriptures: 1 Timothy 2:3-6a; Romans 1:18-23.

April 28 “Wrestling with Doubt” series: “Wrestling with the Reality of Heaven” The question is frequently asked, “Is heaven real?” People want to know if they will be reunited with loved ones who have gone before them. The Bible brings assurance that heaven is real. The teachings of Jesus and His resurrection stand as firm evidence of heaven. Wrestling with the reality of heaven, we can find faith. Scriptures: John 11:21-27; John 14:1-3.
