“The Reason for God” series
January 8, “The Reason for God” series Week 1: “There Can’t Be Just One True Religion?” One of the biggest problems some people have with Christianity is summed up in one word: exclusivity. There are exclusive claims from Jesus and about Jesus. However, Jesus and the Christian faith have had and are having the greatest impact for good in this world. Christianity as the one true religion makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: Acts 4:5-12; John 14:1-7. Kirk Peterson preaching.
January 15, “The Reason for God” series Week 2: “How Could a Good God Allow Suffering?” One of the biggest problems some people have with belief in God is the presence of evil and suffering in the world. The main argument is that if a good and powerful God exists, He would not allow evil and suffering. However, the suffering Jesus experienced for us as God with us, leads to redemption and resurrection. What God has done for us through Jesus makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 4:7-11, 16-18; 1 Peter 4:12-19. Kirk Peterson preaching.
January 22, “The Reason for God” series Week 3: “Christianity Is a Straightjacket?” One of the biggest problems some people have with Christianity is their belief that absolute truth is the enemy of freedom. This includes thoughts such as truth-claims are power plays, and such beliefs are socially divisive. However, not changing the message, Christianity adapts to ways the message can be effectively given. What is the true freedom of Christianity makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: Galatians 5:13-25; John 8:31-36. Jennifer Burns preaching.
January 29, “The Reason for God” series Week 4: “The Church Is Responsible for So Much Injustice?” One of the biggest problems some people have with Christianity is the failures and flaws of Christians. Injustices, character flaws, and other issues inconsistent with Christianity have existed throughout the history of the church. However, the answer is not to write-off the Christian faith, rather it is to move to a fuller and deeper grasp of what Christianity truly is. The church God intends makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: James 3:8-18; Luke 11:37-46. Kirk Peterson preaching.
