When Your Way Isn’t Working Sermon Series

June 2 “When Your Way Isn’t Working” series: “Diagnosing Disconnection” It’s not always easy for us to admit that our way isn’t working. When our way isn’t working, checking our connection to Jesus, the Vine, is best. We are a branch and the branch’s most important job is to stay connected. God’s way is for us to be a branch. Scriptures: 2 Samuel 12:1-8; John 15:1-11

June 9 “When Your Way Isn’t Working” series: “The Wheel of Emotions” Anyone who is trying to do things without Jesus will end up feeling out-of-sorts one way or another. Four emotions that generally show up when we are trying to be productive apart from Jesus are discouragement, fatigue, frustration, and anxiety. God’s way is for us to, like Peter, respond with “Because You say so.” Scriptures: Luke 5:1-11; John 15:1-11

June 16 “When Your Way Isn’t Working” series: “The Way of Connection” When we think of bearing fruit, sometimes the problem is that we don’t think of Jesus. Instead, we think of our own production. Our “doing” should flow from our “being” in Christ. Connection with Christ always leads to fruitfulness in the most important ways. God’s way is for us to connect to Christ first. Scriptures: Luke 10:38-42; John 15:1-11

June 23 “When Your Way Isn’t Working” series: “The Purpose of Pruning” God cuts off things in our lives that are slowing down the growth He wants to see in us. We can trust Him when He prunes us because we know that He is working toward increased fruit in our lives—fruit that will last. God’s way is for us to submit ourselves to his pruning. Scriptures: Luke 15:11-24; John 15:1-11

June 30 “When Your Way Isn’t Working” series: “Grafted and Growing” When trouble comes our way, we can potentially and unwisely loosen our hold on Jesus, the Vine, in exchange for imitation vines. Even then, God in His grace can lift us up and graft us back into the vine. God’s way is for us to hold fast to Jesus regardless of the storms we encounter in life and produce genuine fruit for Him. Scriptures: Matthew 23:1-7; John 15:1-11
