Reason for God-Sermon Series

“The Reason for God” series cont.

February 5, “The Reason for God” series Week 5: “How Can a Loving God Send People to Hell?” One of the biggest problems some people have is the Christian concept of a God who judges people and sends the “unsaved” to hell. A God of love and a God of judgment is seen as a contradiction at least. However, a loving God must keep with His own holiness, righteousness, and justice with those who reject Him. God as loving and righteously judging makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: Revelation 20:11-15; Matthew 10:24-33. Kirk Peterson preaching.

February 12, “The Reason for God” series Week 6: “Science Has Disproved Christianity?” One of the biggest problems some people have is stated in their position that Christianity does not hold up to science. The arguments include science has made belief in God unnecessary and obsolete, miracles are scientifically impossible, and science conflicts with Christianity. However, God is the Creator even of science, which makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: Colossians 1:15-17; Romans 1:18-23. Jennifer Burns preaching.

February 19, “The Reason for God” series Week 7: “You Can’t Take the Bible Literally?” One of the biggest problems some people have is with the Bible, arguing that the Bible is historically inaccurate and culturally obsolete. However, the Bible has stood the test of time, and its impact on people throughout history is undeniable. The accuracy and authority of Scripture makes for belief in an age of skepticism. Scriptures: 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 3:14-17. Kirk Peterson preaching.

February 22, Ash Wednesday, Lenten series “Amazing Grace”: “Grace for the Humble” Throughout David’s story we see he was not a perfect man. He sinned, and knew the darkness of his sin. Yet in humility, he confessed his sins; and even in his sorrow and remorse, he found the deep and abiding grace of God’s forgiving mercy. In humility, God’s amazing grace is granted to us. Scriptures: 2 Samuel 12:1-13; James 4:1-6; Luke 18:9-14. Kirk Peterson preaching.

February 26, Lenten series “Amazing Grace” Week 1: “Grace for the Despairing” Besides warnings of judgment, Isaiah proclaimed messages of grace and good news to God’s people in their despair. Isaiah shared words of comfort and consolation with those whose spirits were weighed down heavily by anxiety and despair; nurturing words of God seeking them out to bring them back to wholeness of life on God’s path. In our despair, God’s amazing grace is granted to us. Scriptures: Isaiah 40:1-5; Matthew 11:28-30. Kirk Peterson preaching.
