“Practicing the Way” Sermon Series
February 1 “Do as He Did” As apprentices of Jesus, we are to carry on the work of our Master. In Him we can grow and mature into people who do as He did. Doing as Jesus did, we are practicing the Way. Scriptures: 1 John 2:3-6; Luke 4:6-21.
February 8 “A Rule of Life” Nurturing a growing spirituality with depth in our present-day culture requires a thoughtful, conscious, intentional plan for our spiritual lives. The plan is a set of practices, relationships, and commitments for having wholeness in Christ. A rule of life is practicing the Way. Scriptures: Matthew 20:20-28; Luke 5:12-16.
February 15 “Take Up Your Cross” Surrender is the foundation of our spiritual life. Following Jesus is a lifelong process of deepening surrender to Him. Surrender involves love and obedience to Christ. Taking up our cross in surrender is practicing the Way. Scriptures: Luke 9:23-25; Luke 14:25-33.
February 18 Ash Wednesday “Dying to Sin, Living in Forgiveness” Scripture tells us to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ. Scripture also instructs us to forgive each other just as God in Christ has forgiven us. We are to die to sin and to live in forgiveness. Scriptures: Romans 6:1-11; Matthew 18:21-35.
February 22 First Sunday in Lent “Dying to Pride, Living for Others” God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble. Jesus set the example of humility and living for others by coming into this world to take the role of a servant. We are to die to pride and live for others. Scriptures: Titus 2:11-14; Matthew 20:20-28.
